Best friends discover they’re actually sisters after 17 years

For 17 years, best friends Ashley Thomas and Latoya Wimberly have been as close as sisters.

Now, after all this time, they find out they really are sisters.

Thomas, 31, and Wimberly, 29, became instant besties after meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2004 in Philadelphia.

The two clicked immediately and “stuck to each other like glue,” Thomas told CNN.

Their bond was so close they even referred to themselves as sisters.

Then in January, they realized they might actually be sisters when Wimberly shared photos of an engagement party on her Facebook page, which included pics of her father, Kenneth Wimberly.

A friend of Thomas’ late mom recognized him and told Thomas that her mom used to “hang out” with Kenneth.

Kenneth recognized photos of Thomas’ mom — and admitted they had a romantic relationship. Thomas, who didn’t know who her father was, went for a DNA test and found out Kenneth was indeed her dad.

“I was at work when I got the call,” Thomas told CNN. “When Kenny told me he was my dad, chills went through my body. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t process it. I couldn’t even talk to them.”

Kenneth had already played a fatherly role in Thomas’ life — he often helped her out at home and always invited her to family events.

“If my father is taking me out, Ashley’s coming with me,” Wimberly told CNN. “If someone asks who are those girls, he says ‘Those are my girls.’ If she has a car problem or any kind of issue, she always goes to my dad. But somehow our families never met.”

“Big Kenny was like my dad,” Thomas said. “He was there for me the whole time and I had no idea.”
