Following a diet high in protein could be the best way to get in shape, according to an expert.
By eating more foods high in protein, those trying to lose weight can start slimming down, Harry Aitken, sports scientist and master trainer for Auster Fitness, told Express.co.uk.
He said: “A high protein diet is simply one that is rich in protein intake, and lower than normal in calories.
“You will be consuming lots of protein, whilst still maintaining reduced calories, to ensure you are in a calorie deficit – ie burning more calories than you’re eating.”
High protein foods include meat, fish, dairy, eggs, seeds, nuts, beans and tofu.
Eating these foods will help dieters feel full so they are less likely to opt for unhealthy snacks.
On top of this, they will feel more satisfied which will make sticking to the healthy plan easy.
Harry explained: “A high protein intake has been proven to keep you fuller for longer, and they have also been proven to reduce subsequent calorie intake.
“This means that, not only are your high protein meals filling you up and helping you stay full, but they also help to reduce consuming more calories throughout the day.
“A high protein diet also helps to maximally retain your muscle mass when losing fat, so whilst some muscle loss is inevitable, eating lots of protein minimises this loss.”
As slimmers will feel full on this diet, they are likely to avoid unhealthy snacks and stick to the diet long term.
“A food that can keep you fuller for longer, without consisting of huge amounts of calories, when dieting is a fantastic solution to help you reduce your calorie intake,” Harry said.
